Sausage Gravy and Biscuits

It’s a busy week for me!  I haven’t found too much time to blog.  Tonight, though, I just had to share how I made sausage gravy, which is actually how I’ve been making sausage gravy for years.

I don’t like having to take these pictures in my poorly lit kitchen!  It’s getting dark so early in the evenings now!

Sausage Gravy over Biscuits

Prepare the biscuits from this recipe or use biscuits from a can

1 pound ground sausage

around 2 1/2 cups water and 1/2 cup water

1/2 cup flour

salt, possibly*

Directions:

1. Brown sausage in a medium-large skillet.  I add around 1/2 cup water as I brown the sausage to keep it from sticking.

2.When sausage is browned, turn burner to medium and add another cup of water.  Shake flour with 1 and 1/2 cups water until there are no lumps. (I use a Tupperware gravy shaker!)

3. Pour the flour/water into the skillet, stirring constantly.  Continue stirring while the gravy heats up to avoid any lumps.  Keep burner on low until ready to serve when biscuits are finished baking.

* Your gravy may or may not need any salt added to it, because the sausage should season it appropriately.  If you think it needs a little something extra, add a little salt when all the other ingredients have been added.

The water/flour ratio is not an exact science!  You can adjust that according to your own preferences.

I’m not sure if I can call sausage gravy breakfast for dinner or not, because I’ve never actually had sausage gravy for breakfast.  I love it for dinner, though!

  1. I looove sausage gravy over biscuits! Thanks for sharing! And it’s always been breakfast for me, but I would eat it anytime of day.

    We use this at all mealtimes. Over biscuits for breakfast, on mashed potatoes for dinner. IT all good!

    This is the same recipe I use and I LOVE it. I add a pinch of thyme to mine.
