Do some of your socks have holes in them, or do some of them never look white anymore? Were some of them not the quality you expected and after only wearing them a short while they looked awful?
We all wear out socks and throw them away. Next time, before you toss them, re-purpose them!
This particular pair of socks had no holes, but had little “fuzzies” on them and didn’t ever look clean to me.
I cut my worn-out socks into cleaning rags! Here’s why:
1. There’s no way I’m going to buy rags specifically for cleaning the toilet or bathtub.
2. If you want to toss a rag after cleaning something really nasty, this saves having to use a paper towel for that purpose. If you have enough worn out socks or other types of clothing (you can also cut worn-out pants, shirts, etc.) you can toss some of your rags without re-using.
3. I really like cleaning with thin sock rags!
4. Re-using socks (or other clothes) after they are worn out is really green!

Great idea Bonnie! I too have used old white t-shirts etc for cleaning
It’s such an easy thing to do that saves resources as well as money!
Bonnie, you need to make this a *kitchen tip* by talking about sock dishrags!!
But I don’t use sock dishrags!
I just use them for cleaning rags. I don’t really like using them as dishrags as much.
You’ll return to your senses when all the store-bought dish rags wear out and you buy more and they wear out in like 6 months too.
Haha… we’ll see.
this is also great, green way of repurposing something, giving it new life so it doesn’t wind up in a landfill anytime soon! cheers!
good idea. hubby has a lot of old holey socks i just can’t get rid of…..just in case. LOL! I am trying to recycle all the worn out/ripped out jeans into a rag quilt.
Oh, a rag quilt sounds fantastic!
Why did I never think of this? Seriously- it’s so simple and I throw socks away all. the. time. And I totally agree with you- I love thinner rags too. Those are always the ones I reach for first
Well now you know!
Glad I could be a help
